Why an Easter Egg Hunt?
The best part about Easter is the egg hunt and chocolate! This lesson cashes in on that excitement, without the tummy ache of all the chocolate! 
Adding novelty and movement to your maths block is a great way to reignite student engagement, especially in the final weeks of term. Instead of worksheets or textbook pages, your students will be on the hunt for colourful paper eggs hidden around the classroom or playground, solving problems along the way. 
In this sort of egg hunt, they’ll be reinforcing important maths concepts, working independently or with a partner, and having so much fun they won’t even realise they’re doing some serious thinking.
We’ve created three different versions to suit a range of learners and year levels, so you can choose the one that best suits your students’ needs.
🐣 Number Sense Easter Hunt
This version focuses on Number of the Day activities, which are perfect for students who need extra support developing strong number foundations. Students go searching for an egg. Each “egg” contains a number that they then use to answer a series of Number of the Day questions. Things like:
- Representing it using MAB
- Expanding it
- Writing it in words
- Number before and after
- Showing it on a number line
This activity is excellent for engaging your students in learning all about numbers and how the number system works. 
Teacher differentiation tip: Use different-sized numbers to differentiate easily! Some students may work on 3-digit numbers, while others use 6-digit numbers to complete the Number of the Day activities.

🥚 Doubles and Near Doubles Easter Hunt
Mental maths strategies are the backbone of efficient addition and subtraction, and this version gives students a chance to practise doubles and near doubles in a fun, interactive way.
Students will:
- Search for hidden problems aka ‘eggs’
- Solve double facts and near-doubles equations
- Record their answers on the recording sheet
- Work individually or with a partner
This hunt is perfect for Year 1–2 students who are working on mental strategies in class. We have even included a range of colour-coded differentiated options to help cater to your class’s range of abilities. 
Teacher tip: Use it as a fast finisher activity, small group rotation, or a whole class revision lesson!

🐇 Multiplication and Division Easter Hunt
The Easter Hunt has been designed for your middle and upper primary learners. This version combines multiplication and division facts in a playful setting. Students will:
- Hunt for eggs and solve multiplication and division questions
- Strengthen fact recall and number fluency
- Work independently or with a peer to complete the challenge
- Have so much fun searching and finding hidden eggs
This activity reinforces multiplication and division recall without the pressure. It’s ideal for Years 3–5, especially as they get restless as the Easter break looms. 
Teacher tip: We have included 4 different versions so this lesson could easily be repeated throughout the week because it is so much fun!
